It combines strategic challenges with psychological elements. With poker, you don’t play just your cards - you also need to analyse and react to your opponents. It is a strategy game, but also a very social, human game.

Isn’t Poker just a game of luck?

As in every card game where players get cards from a shuffled deck of cards, there is of course luck involved in poker.
But in the long run, the luck in poker equals itself out – if you play 1,000 hands, luck will play a much smaller role than it plays in a single hand.
In the long run, the strategic aspects of poker prevail:
• Which card combinations should you play with?
• How much should you bet?
• When should you fold a hand?
• When should you bluff – and when is your opponent bluffing?
There are many professional poker players who earn their living with playing poker – something that would never happen if it was just a game of luck. There are many different skills you need at poker: knowledge of basic strategies, analysing your opponent, mathematical considerations and much more.

online poker Texas Hold’em Poker!

There are many different variants of poker including ‘Five Card Draw’, ‘Omaha’ or ‘Texas Hold’em’.
Even though we also offer strategies, information and discussion forums on the other variants, we focus on the world’s most popular variant: Texas Hold’em Poker.
Texas Hold’em Poker is played with a deck of 52 cards. Every player gets two cards, hidden from the other players. In four betting rounds, the players bet money on their hands – or fold their hand (lay it down and wait for the next round).
After the first betting round, three “community” cards are put on the table for everyone to see (called: “The Flop”). The second betting round now takes place. Before the third betting round (called: “The Turn”), one more community card is added. A last card is added before the final betting round (“The River”). Every player who is still in the game at the River now makes the best five-card combination of his own two hidden cards and the five community cards. The player with the best five-card hand wins all the money that was bet in this hand.
You can find more details about these basics of the games – including the rules, the details on all betting rounds and the power order of all five-card combinations in our article and video on the Rules of Texas Hold’em.
